Adjust a larger duct system from the controls

A compatible BMS can set fan speed to a building schedule; a sensor controller can vary it as ventilation demand changes. Both use the external 0–10 V input. CENTRO EC 315 has no built-in room sensor, so automatic operation depends on those separate controls.

How the 0–10 V speed control works

A separate EC speed controller sets the fan speed through its 0–10 V input. For automatic adjustment, a compatible sensor controller or building management system (BMS) can supply that signal instead. For example, an external CO₂ or humidity controller can vary speed as conditions change. The standard fan has no built-in room sensor or user speed control.

Installation essentials

  • 1-phase, 50/60 Hz mains supply. Electrical installation must follow the rating label and EC wiring diagram and be carried out by a qualified electrician.
  • Horizontal installation requires at least 1 m of straight intake duct. For vertical installation, fit the intake-side protective hood specified in the user guide.
  • Follow the airflow arrow on the casing and leave access to the terminal box and removable cover.

Inspection and maintenance

The EC motor has thermal protection with automatic restart. Isolate the electrical supply before opening or cleaning the fan. Inspect and clean it at least every six months, following the user guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the efficiency of the EC fan motor?

The EC fan motor is highly efficient, converting electrical energy into mechanical energy with minimal losses. It offers higher airflow and reduced noise levels, especially at lower speeds, ensuring energy-efficient operation.

The efficiency of the EC fan motor is quantified using a metric called Specific Fan Power (SFP). SFP measures the power consumption of the fan relative to the airflow it produces, expressed in watts per litre per second (W/L/s). For example, the Blauberg CENTRO-EC-315 has an SFP of 0.39 W/L/s, which means it consumes 0.39 watts of power for every litre per second of airflow it provides. This low SFP value highlights the fan's high efficiency, ensuring minimal impact on your energy bills while providing superior ventilation.

The CENTRO-EC-315 features a high-quality EC fan motor that delivers outstanding efficiency, with a maximum power consumption of only 165 watts. This ensures minimal impact on your energy bills while providing superior ventilation, making it a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option.

2. Which is better AC fan or EC fan?

EC fans are generally better than AC fans due to their superior energy efficiency, precise speed control, quieter operation, lower heat generation, and compliance with stringent energy regulations.

EC fan motors adjust their speed based on ventilation demand, reducing power consumption and lowering energy bills. They offer flexible speed control without the need for additional components, unlike AC motors, preventing energy wastage and providing a more adaptable solution for various ventilation needs.

3. Are EC motors explosion proof?

EC motors, including those in the Blauberg CENTRO-EC-315, are not inherently explosion-proof. For applications requiring explosion-proof features, specific motor designs and certifications are needed. The CENTRO-EC-315 does not meet the UK ATEX directive, which sets the standards for equipment used in explosive atmospheres.

Therefore, it is not suitable for environments where explosion-proof characteristics are necessary. For such applications, it is crucial to select a fan specifically designed and certified to meet these stringent safety requirements. While the CENTRO-EC-315 complies with ERP regulations and boasts an energy rating class of B, it is essential to consider these limitations when planning for specific use cases.

4. Are Inline Fans with EC Motors SAP Approved?

Inline fans with EC motors, such as the Blauberg CENTRO-EC-315, comply with ERP regulations and often meet the requirements of the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) for energy efficiency in buildings.

The CENTRO-EC-315’s Specific Fan Power (SFP) of 0.39 watts per litre per second is well below the required 0.5 SFP, supporting sustainable building practices and ensuring adherence to modern energy efficiency criteria. This makes it a suitable choice for buildings aiming for high energy efficiency standards.

5. What is the energy rating of a fan with an EC motor?

The energy rating of a fan with an EC motor can vary, but the Blauberg CENTRO-EC-315 boasts an energy rating class of B, indicating superior energy efficiency.

This compliance supports sustainable building practices and ensures your ventilation system adheres to modern energy efficiency criteria, contributing to a reduced environmental impact and lower operational costs.

6. Do EC Fans have an energy rating certificate?

Yes, EC fans typically come with an energy rating certificate that validates their compliance with energy efficiency standards and regulations.

The Blauberg CENTRO-EC-315 complies with ERP regulations and boasts an energy rating class of B, ensuring that your ventilation system meets modern standards and contributes to a smaller carbon footprint, offering both reliability and sustainability.

7. How do I work out how noisy an EC fan is?

The noise level of an EC fan can be determined by its decibel (dB) rating. For example, the Blauberg CENTRO-EC-315 has a noise level of 48 dB(A) at a 3-meter distance.

The advanced EC motor design ensures quieter operation, especially at lower speeds, enhancing comfort in both residential and commercial spaces while maintaining efficient inline duct ventilation. This makes it an excellent choice for environments where noise reduction is important.

Noise Level Comparison

Noise Level Comparison

The noise level of an EC fan can be determined by its decibel (dB) rating. For example, the Blauberg CENTRO-EC-315 has a noise level of 48 dB(A) at a 3-meter distance.

This noise level is relatively quiet. It is louder than a quiet office or library but quieter than a normal conversation, making it suitable for environments where noise reduction is important.

Noise Level Comparison Chart

Noise Level (dB) Common Sound
30 Whisper
40 Quiet library, quiet office
50 Moderate rainfall, refrigerator humming
60 Normal conversation

80 Busy city traffic

8. Do EC fans have noisy motor hum?

EC fans are designed for quieter operation, especially at lower speeds, and typically produce minimal motor hum compared to traditional AC fans.

The advanced design of EC fan motors ensures quieter operation, which reduces noise levels and enhances comfort in both residential and commercial spaces while maintaining efficient ventilation. This makes EC fans a superior choice for noise-sensitive environments.

9. Will a fan with an EC motor work well at low speed

Yes, fans with EC motors work efficiently at low speeds, providing precise speed control and maintaining performance while reducing energy consumption and noise.

EC fan motors offer flexible speed control, operating at various speeds based on required airflow, which ensures precise adjustments and prevents energy wastage. This adaptability makes them ideal for dynamic environments where ventilation needs vary.

10. Is it better to have low fan speed or high fan speed for an EC fan??

p>It depends on the ventilation needs. EC fans offer flexible speed control, allowing you to adjust the speed according to specific airflow requirements. Lower speeds enhance energy efficiency and reduce noise, while higher speeds provide maximum airflow when needed.

The advanced EC motor design of the CENTRO-EC-315 ensures quieter operation, especially at lower speeds, enhancing comfort and maintaining efficient inline duct ventilation. This flexibility allows users to optimize performance based on their specific ventilation demands.
